Guided Tour

Welcome to Cootes

We are located on Gatehouse Lane, Burgess Hill near Tesco Express and the Woolpack pub. We have a large free car park right outside our door for all our clients. Take a look at our modern spacious facilities.

Our spacious reception

We have a large reception and waiting area where you will be greeted by our receptionists and nurses. Our scales are also positioned out here and you are more than welcome to weigh your animals if you are just passing and not specifically here for an appointment.

We sell Royal Canin wet and dry foods. We also have various collars including Buster, Comfy Collars and SoftE for cats and dogs to wear after operations. We stock a wide range of oral hygiene and dental products available including Virbac & Petosan, grooming products including Furminator, Heritage, Ancal Just 4 Pets and Pet Head brushes and shampoos. We have various pet toys including Jolly Moggy and Kong, and Yap pet beds. For the more fabulous pets we have Simply Glamour pet charms for collars! We also have Pet Tags that are deeply engraved for a longer life.

We also have lots of information and displays in reception to give you advice on looking after your pets and information on the products we stock.

Bright, air-conditioned consulting rooms

We have two large, air conditioned consulting rooms which give us plenty of space to examine your pets - even if you have to bring the whole family along. We have dedicated cat and rabbit scales as well as the larger ones for the dogs so all our weighing is as accurate as possible. We are fully computerised so all your clinical notes are easily to hand. Both rooms are stocked with all the equipment needed for a thorough clinical examination to be performed.

Large kennel room

We have a large kennel room and all the cages face outwards so the animals are less stressed by not having to face another patient. As facing another animal can be quite traumatic for some animals, especially the cats and rabbits, we try to minimise their stress as much as possible.

We have varying sizes of cages to accommodate our varied patients so whatever size animal from hamster to Pyrenean Mountain dog, we have a comfy home for their stay with us.

Prep & X-ray room

We have a designated prep room that is used to prepare animals before they go through to our sterile theatre. We can anaesthetise the animals here, in a quiet and controlled environment which again helps to decrease their stress whilst in our care. We clip the fur prior to scrubbing the surgical area of the patient in this room and then transfer them to our sterile theatre where they are scrubbed again before being ready for their surgical procedure.

We can also perform dentals, x-rays and ultrasound scans in this room. We have a hydraulic table so we can drop the table to the floor, so allowing large dogs to calmly walk onto the table before we elevate them to the required height another stress buster! We strive to make any stay at the clinic as calm and stress free as possible for our patients and most don’t seem to hold it against us and quite readily return!

Operating theatre

Our sterile theatre is operated to a very high standard of cleanliness with thorough cleans daily and a full top to toe scrub down weekly. We have an excellent record of minimal post operative infections which is always good to know when you are already concerned about your pet undergoing a surgical procedure.

Equipment

Our full medical and surgical facilities include:

Anaesthetic Machines - we can operate in two of our rooms at the same time.

Ultrasound Scanner - we have a very high quality scanner on site that can be used to image your pets internal organs which can then give us a very good idea of what is happening inside their bodies. We also have access to a local imaging expert who can be called into the clinic if we need a specialised scan or imaging to be performed. This means there is less need to refer patients and most procedures and investigations can be performed on site.

Blood Pressure Monitor - we can check your animals blood pressure at the clinic to see if we have hypertension problems or for monitoring through an anaesthetic if required.

Blood Machines - we have in-house blood testing machines so if your animal requires a pre-operative blood sample or a full blood screen then we can perform the test the same day as any operation, so we can minimise the number of visits needed to be made.

Drip Warmer - our drip warmer allows us to heat up intravenous fluids as they are administered so we can prevent or correct hypothermia when necessary.

Infusion Pump - the pump allows us to precisely administer intravenous fluids to different sized animals with different fluid needs. Another way your animals can be treated as safely and effectively as possible. We would like to thank Mrs Tranah, one of our loyal clients, who very kindly donated some money to the clinic when she sadly had to say goodbye to her beloved cat. She wanted to say a thank you to us and so we purchased an infusion pump so we could help more of our patients.

Dental Machine - we have a high power scaler, polisher and drill at the clinic so your pets teeth can be treated to the high standard you would expect at your own dentist.

Xray machine - we are often complimented by the specialists on our excellent quality xrays - so if there is something to find in your pet we will do our best to see it! We have a new digital x-ray processor which allows us to process our x-rays very quickly plus we can e-mail them to referral centres which all helps to get a fast, accurate diagnosis for your pet.

Diathermy - Our diathermy machine allows us to operate in a surgical field with minimal blood contaminating the site.
